Performance test using StampPDF Batch to Bates Number 2,232,030 pages on a New Mac Pro with internal SSD.

We were curious about the performance of Apple’s new Mac Pro which uses PCIe-based flash storage instead of SATA-based solid state drives or disk based hard drives; so, we did some timing tests. We have a test suite of real world documents which consist of 14,170 files which contain a total of 2,232,030 pages.

The tests were run using StampPDF Batch to place sequential Bates numbers on every page of every document. The results comparing the internal SSD to an external SSD are as follows:

Internal SSD - 2,232,030 Pages / 10 Minutes = 223,203 pages/minute
External SSD - 2,232,030 Pages / 15 Minutes = 148,802 pages/minute

Processor : 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
Memory : 16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
Internal SSD Storage : 500 GByte Apple Internal SSD
External SSD Storage : 240 GByte SATA-3 SSD

The external SSD drive was housed in a Akitio Neutrino Thunderbolt enclosure.
